Projection in psychology is a defense mechanism which is about blaming and saying something about a person which actually applies to the person who is saying all that. These accusations are confessions of own psyche ! In Hindi we say “ Jo bolta hai wo he hota hai “ which is so true and apt!
My favorite example is from Mahabharata –
Anytime Shakuni came across lord Krishna , Shakuni’s inner demons were triggered by Lord Krishna’s light and when people’s demons get triggered , they say things which are exactly about their own personality and their hidden deeds !
“When Shakuni saw Lord Krishna, he used to say, ‘Here comes the deceiver, the deceitful, the schemer.’ Oh, you don’t know how cunning, deceitful, and illusionist / magician this Krishna is.”
Now it’s not always people carrying evil energy who do this , sometimes good people too can project unknowingly !
That’s the difference , good people can project unknowingly , when they are not self reflecting or unable to see or think clearly because of their past traumas /unhealed wounds but evil people , they love the duping delight and sadistic pleasure of making the innocent one seen as who they themselves are , to control everyone’s perception , opinions and decisions .
The duping delight and high they get by making their victim seen as the culprit while getting away with all the chaos , abuse inflicted
This gives an ego boost to evil people after all they have mastered such tactics many a times in their lives , you’re not the first person they have conned , stolen from , copied from , lied about and schemed against ! The foundation of their entire world is based on trickery and deception all while keeping a different personality in their social / community circle and sometimes even their own family / extended family never gets to know their real side !
Shakuni was well aware of his inner demons ,
Machiavellian people are aware of their inner demons , they lie , twist and play the victim knowingly , not once but throughout their lives .
Although they successfully get away with it because of their masks and “strategic calculative good deeds “
“They know when to help, whom to help, and how to help. They know when and in front of whom they need to act humble. They know who they can mess with and whom they shouldn’t even think of messing with. They know when to throw shade and act arrogant, and when to people-please and show their fake, humble side. They have different social groups in their community for their different versions.”
They know how to make some people their alibis and flying monkeys who will support them and their opinions.
One major red flag is that they are the only one who are entitled to be the story tellers ,
they twist, lie ,fabricate and keep feeding their same story again and again.. ( repeating lies multiple times can make the most terrible lies sound convincing and if people listen to that again and again , their mind is conditioned with it )
they spread lies and / or do something so evil that the other party doesn’t even get one chance to speak and stand for themselves .
Imagine someone keep talking for years but would go crazy if anyone from the group they are brainwashing goes and ask / confront the other party who is being talked about , who is being majorly lied about incessantly! They create such pathetic lies that make everyone feel embarrassing to even go and confront the other person.. lies so nasty and devastating that people who are being fed those lies can’t gather strength to even go and confront !! Mastermind , conniving people who make moves likes chess in real world !
They show their true self only when some of their victims have already seen their true side then they make sure to taunt and play their dog whistle tactic because hiding true self becomes boring for them so they love it that now you know their true colours but what they can’t stand is – Being seen by other people and mutual connections that they are not yet done using , abusing and manipulating.
A lot of their victims don’t even know they have been harmed slyly by them , narcissists enjoy doing damage slyly , fooling you and still keeping the bond intact for more benefits and more opportunities to harm , sabotage you later .
Most evil type of narcissist never wants to be seen or unmasked but if someone figures them out , they will temporarily change their behaviour and will trap you again , this loop goes on and if one day you’re sure about their evil rotten core then they don’t want to pretend anymore ( only in front of you ) , then they will tease you by showing you that yes .. you have seen the real side but I will make you go crazy proving it to those who are still under the spell ..
They hate anyone getting free from their chains because these chains are like straw through which they can leech off others materialistically , emotionally , socially , intellectually ! If they are not leaving you alone yet , if they are still faking the bond with you , if they still want control over you , if they willingly haven’t shown you their real side yet then that means .. They are not done with you YET ! There is still some benefit/ rivalry /jealous ploy to destroy/ secret competition/ agenda yet to be fulfilled.. !
Save your life…It isn’t too late but one day it will be !
